Polansky vs US Justice in the World Court.

Polanski arrest provokes international outrage

French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand condemned the arrest of the film-make and told a press briefing that the arrest was "absolutely horrifying" and the case was "an old story which doesn't really make any sense." "We know the conditions that this happened in, and while there is a generous America that we like, there is also a side of America which scares and that side has just showed us its face," he told reporters.

Polanski has been working on a film version of "The Ghost" a political thriller by British writer Robert Harris, and Harris told Sky News television he was amazed by events.

"The warrant is 31 years old and Roman Polanski has a house in Switzerland. I have worked with him there two or three times in the last year or so.

"I'm amazed this should happen now, and I cannot begin to fathom what reason lies behind it."

This is what horrifies the people of the artistic left. Arresting a criminal who has evaded justice for 30+ years. The US justice system is reprehensible because it doesn't just let bygones be bygones. Their outrage and it's target speaks volumes about their values and ethics. It is not unusual that the US goes it alone or with very few allies on a truly serious and difficult world issues.

President Obama dreams of a world without weapons ... but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite. Iran since 2005 has flouted five security council resolutions. North Korea has been defying council resolutions since 1993. I support the extended hand of the Americans, but what good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community? More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map.

---No, not Rush Limbaugh. The President of France in response to Obama's recent speech to the United Nations.

Obama displays an understanding of the World that rivals that of the average 6 year old girl along with the Naivete to match. The center piece of liberal strategy is "meaningful" dialogue. Ignoring the fundamental reality that actions speak louder than words for both individuals and nations.

Another line from the speech states, "No nation can or should try to dominate another nation." Mark Steyn knocks it out of the park with this "Did a professional speechwriter write that? Or did you outsource it to a starry-eyed runner-up in the Miss America pageant? Whether or not any nation "should try" to dominate another, they certainly "can," and do so with effortless ease, all over the planet and throughout human history."

Obama fights wasteful pork.

Associated Press - August 31, 2009 4:45 PM ET

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The Obama administration renewed a threat today to veto a $680 billion defense spending bill if it includes money for two separate engines for the next-generation jet fighter.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says there's no need for two engine suppliers and that two engines are a luxury the Pentagon can't afford.

It seems congress wants to have a second engine builder which increases the cost of the program by $500 million dollars and creates no advantage other than jobs in a few select congressional districts. That's how congress works. They spend money on jobs in a district and pretend that it's not diverting money from jobs in other districts that would have existed with no real benefit to anyone but the congress and the businesses who lobbied/begged for special treatment.

I applaud the President's stand on this.
